Our story
Neither of us has built houses. We have spent more than a decade solving these same types of problems in adjacent industries. Ben founded Spruce, optimizing schedules and dispatching thousands of crews across more than a million apartments. He built operating systems for field workers and integrated them with nearly every major property management platform in the multifamily industry. Rob built Pingboard, which managed a similar, massive data layer across dozens of HRIS systems.
Residential construction was a target-rich environment. Dozens of systems, none of them agreeing, and a very large amount of human effort spent holding the whole thing together. We also believed the data underneath it was about to matter more than people realized. AI is only useful on top of data someone can trust, and nobody had a clean read on what actually happens between a builder and the trades.
We started with one problem: purchase orders and schedule changes moving between systems without a person in the middle. Solving it earned us the opportunity (and the data) to solve the next problem. The list is growing faster than we can cross things off, so we are going to be at this one for a while.

Complexity is the enemy of progress. We design Scaffold to be intuitive, efficient, and free of unnecessary steps. Every feature must earn its place, and fewer steps are always better. We sell solutions, not software seats – our success is measured by how easily customers achieve their goals, not how much time they spend in our platform. We simplify until it breaks, then refine.
We meet the industry where it is – but we don’t leave it there. Our solutions address immediate needs without reinforcing outdated ways of working. Every decision should solve a problem today while paving the way for the future. We balance practicality with vision, ensuring that what we build moves the industry forward, not just keeps it running.
Scaffold belongs to all of us. We don’t wait for permission to fix what’s broken, and we don’t assume someone else is handling it. If the trash is full, take it out – but never leave your dirty dishes for someone else. Overstepping will never be punished, but silence is unacceptable. Progress depends on those who care enough to act. If you see a problem, say something. The only real failure is assuming someone else will.
